Roy at the 11th Circuit
Chief Justice Roy Moore and his attorneys go before the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals today here in Montgomery to defend his placement of the Ten Commandments monument in the Judicial Building(Moore: Commandments Monument Should Stay).
Roy Moore is one of the most shameless grandstanders I have ever witnessed. He makes completely absurd arguments that he may very well believe, which is scarier than if he was just doing it for political purposes. There is no point in trying to have a civil discourse with his supporters because they’re convinced that the solution to all the world’s problems is to post the Ten Commandments in every room of every building and then everyone will follow them and the world will be wonderful.
If I could have a civil discourse I would articulate that over half of the commandments are not reflected in our law and some are outright contradicted. Government doesn’t tell us that we can’t worship idols. Adultery isn’t illegal. Many of us know very well that there is no law saying you have to obey your parents. We can covet without breaking the law, as long as we don’t covet to the point of taking what doesn’t belong to us. The Government even facilitates the killing of people; war, the death penalty, and cases of self-defense.
Unfortunately, no one wants to participate in this civil discourse, so we’re left with the grandstanders on both sides trying to out-shout each other and get the most media exposure. It’s a shame that we are wasting taxpayer resources on these shenanigans.
