Biscuits and the Advertiser
What was the point of the Montgomery Advertiser seeking comment from current Orlando Rays players about the Montgomery Biscuits name and logo and what made it deserving of top billing on the front page?
1) No player in AA baseball wants to remain in AA no matter what logo they would be wearing. So, asking them if they would want to be a Biscuit is a more loaded question than it appears. If the major league team were called the Tampa Bay Biscuits, you could bet every single one of them would want to be a part of it.
2) If the Tampa Bay organization is comfortable with it’s players using the term horse(poo)on the record in a public setting than Montgomery citizens are going to have much more serious issues than the team name.
3) If the team plays poorly they will be heckled regardless of the nickname. If they play well, it won’t matter.
4)If any player doesn’t want to play for our beloved Biscuits, then there are hundreds more prospects who would love to take his place.
I wish the Advertiser would stop trying to emphasize criticism of the name and turn it into news. The name is no longer news. We are the Biscuits! Get over it and let’s play ball!
