Electabilty and the latest polls
Daily Kos highlights the latest Newsweek poll data in this post. The highlight of this data is that it appears there is no “unelectable” Democratic candidate among the poll leaders at this stage of the game. In head-to-head match-ups, Bush pulls around 50 percent and the challenger pulls 40-50% with 10% undecided. If a candidate can muster broad-based support, how can he/she possibly be considered unelectable?
Dean, Kerry, Gephardt, Edwards and Lieberman can all compete with Bush. Witht hat as a given, the race could take a much different path.
One side-note. Another recent poll showed that the majority of Americans couldn’t name any of the Democratic candidates for President. So is this poll really only showing the President’s approval rating with a little name recognition mixed in?
