Residents can help select ADEM chief
The selection of a new head of environmental management for Alabama has really gotten out of hand. The commission is trying to get some good PR by selecting a panel of Alabama residents to assist with selecting a new director, but they are opening themselves up to criticism no matter who they choose. I don’t think this is a bad move. I just hope they thought it through.

Surely there will be some type of qualification requirement, right? I mean, what does Joe the Accountant from Mobile know about environmental regulation (except perhaps that he hates tree-huggers?). Couldn’t this be a means for BCA or ALFA to load the “citizen’s committee” up with a bunch of proxies by encouraging seemingly average Joes and Janes to express interest? Maybe I’m too cynical.
