(Andress) Cavanaugh becomes first female party leader in Alabama

Congratulations to Twinkle (Andress) Cavanaugh on her new post as head of the Alabama GOP. I hope I don’t have to correct you as often as I did Marty. Somehow I think I will.

Senators propose cuts to Forever Wild funds

This is the kind of thing we continue to see in the Alabama legislature and it sickens me. Legislators diverting money from programs they know nothing about to some pet projects they feel need to be funded, but are not willing to ask the people to pay for. I agree that volunteer fire departments are in desperate need of additional funding, but it should not come at the expense of conserving lands in the state for future generations.

The only reason this particular story was newsworthy is that one of the co-sponsors actually comes from the area where the most land has been purchased through the Forever Wild program, Senator Gary Tanner (D-Mobile). When asked about it all he could say was he wasn’t aware of that and he hopes the program is willing to share with volunteer firefighters. Come on! There has to be some responsibiltity and accountability here.
