The head of the AEA, Paul Hubbert, is backing down from his demand for a 7 percent pay hike for teachers. He now recognizes that that level may not be sustainable for even one additional budget year. I give him credit for being willing to see the light, but six percent is not going to get it done either, it’s looking more likely that a compromise around five percent is coming.
