You Had Me Until…

I don’t have a problem with legislators attending the annual meeting of the National Conference of State Legislatures. However, I do have a problem with this:

Asked if he thought Alabama needed to pay to send 25 lawmakers to Seattle, Payne replied that the NCSL has 15 committees on agriculture, education, energy, health and other topics, where lawmakers hear from experts and share information.

“So I think you certainly need someone there on every committee,” Payne said. “The value of the meetings is the interchange of all the ideas and all the information you can learn about federal legislation as well as different states promoting different types of ideas.”

Payne added that he planned to fly out a few days before the meeting to sightsee.

I hope that Mr. Payne will not be asking the state to pay his expenses on the days he is there to sightsee. I trust this is not the case.
