Bravo to the Montgomery Advertiser for bringing this story the attention it deserves. Jimmy Stubbs illustrates exactly what the real issues are in the debate over same-sex marriage. It has nothing to do with what is right or wrong, or legal or illegal. It has to do with what one segment of the population just can’t get comfortable with…and that’s no way for a society of laws to function. Mr. Stubbs had no legal right to refuse marriage to this couple, but he did it anyway. Yet, I imagine Mr. Stubbs would strongly disapprove of others flouting the law by issuing licenses to same-sex couples. What’s the difference Mr. Stubbs?

I don’t have a problem with civil war re-enactors, to each his own. However, I do have a problem with frontpage articles on the subject.

the first poll since the primaries in the Alabama gubernatorial race is disconcerting for Baxley backers. Incumbent Republican Governor Bob Riley pulled 53 percent of the vote, while Baxley only received 25 percent. The race certainly isn’t over at this point, but Baxley certainly has an uphill battle.

The Montgomery Advertiser reports with a headline “No More Politics for Moore?”. It was too much to hope this was based on something coming out of Moore’s camp. In actuality, it’s the opinion of political observers. Moore will not go gently into that goodnight. He likely won’t run for office again, but he will not disappear.

I like Lucy, but she’s deceiving herself, if she thinks that the reason she perceives a big lead over Don Siegelman has nothing to do with his corruption trial. She may have been able to gain a big lead in the polls (which is seriously counting your chickens anyway) regardless, but Don’s trial has helped her tremendously.

Tom Parker and his cohorts are so far off base in their positions that even those outside the state are taking notice. I would point out to the writer that these are Roy Moore’s “disciples” we’re talking about.
