Auburn Football in Deep
Once again Auburn is going to get caught trying to cover up a scandal involving its football program. Instead of being forthright and investigating valid allegations, they waited until the New York Times started poking around to get serious. They’ll never learn. There will be sanctions levied by the NCAA and they still won’t learn.
Just so sad really…
UPDATE: Dr. Steven Taylor wonders why we don’t just create majors in football and be done with it. I’ll take it one step further and suggest we just create a minor league for football and eliminate D-1 college football entirely, or make the university teams affiliates in a new minor league with no requirement that the players attend the university.

Is NCAA sanctions all that matter?

These allegations are certainly troubling, but it bothers me that we’re all so quick to criticize the system and rid college of football programs. There are more than 360,000 student-athletes, and the vast majority use their four years as a student-athlete focused on their educational opportunities. While there are sometimes unfortunate situations where priorities seem to be in the wrong place, for the most part, programs get it right and don’t deserve to be labeled unfairly. This may be an instance where it is as wrong as can be.

you are the one who claimed “There will be sanctions levied by the NCAA…” Guess you are wrong.

Chris,
I’m sorry, how am I wrong? The investigation into this has barely begun and as the Montgomery Advertiser said on its editorial page today,
There are also reports this issue will be raised in a larger probe on the tax exempt status for college athletic programs by Congress. This is a long way from over.

This issue is DOA. The only thing that will come out of it is that Auburn and other schools that do the same thing will limit the number of independent studies a Prof can teach. And you are wrong in that there will be NO NCAA sanctions or do I need to keep repeating myself. By the way I can find a half dozen editorial that support my side. Remember editorial are not fact.
