One of my favorite bluegrass groups, Nickel Creek, made the following announcement through their e-mail newsletter:
After seven years of extensive touring in support of three records (seventeen years
as a band), we’ve decided to take a break of indefinite length at the end of 2007
to preserve the environment we’ve sought so hard to create and to pursue other
interests. It has been a pleasure to write, record, and perform for you through the
years and we’d like to heartily thank you for your invaluable contribution to our
musical lives.
Yours,
Nickel Creek
(Sean, Sara, and Chris)
Sean, Sara and Chris are all talented artists in their own right, and I will certainly miss hearing them play together, but I do wish them good luck on their new projects.

We may finally be able to say goodbye to Katherine Harris for good. The woman is simply not fit for public service.

The executive committee of the Alabama Democratic Party was going to take any opportunity they could find to disqualify Patricia Todd, but to use an archaic rule that Lucy Baxley and Jim Folsom have violated as well is outrageous! This should not stand, but it probably will. The Alabama Democratic Party should be ashamed, but it isn’t.
And once again…Alabama gets national attention for idiocy. Who can say that the image is unfair when we continue to exhibit this kind of behavior?
**UPDATE: Steven Taylor at Poliblog is on this story too.

This is why, when there are suspicions of this kind of behavior, people need to follow through. There is no telling how many victims John Karr has out there.

It’s important for Alabama citizens to know about these kinds of practices. Maybe there are some citizens that don’t see anything wrong with those who have money taking legislators on trips, but perhaps we need to have that discussion in the public sphere. Just perhaps, it is more important for legislators to receive “information” from opposing parties through the same avenues, regardless of their affluence.

This is just like Montgomery. You bring in a person who is highly qualified and proven in a state (North Carolina) that has led the way in education reform. You tie her hands and then say personality conflicts don’t allow you to work with her anymore. The definition of insanity…doing what you’ve always done and expecting different results.

The superintendent of Montgomery County Public Schools is being asked to resign. This is par for the course, we are scheduled to begin school next week and the board is booting the superintendent out the door. Idiotic.

I would have high praise for “Boots”, if I really thought he could bring about change in the way Alabama selects its judges. However, that is a long, hard road and even a little progress would be tantamount to a miracle.
