What does the state with the lowest tax burden in the country really need? Why, lower taxes of course! Actually, many of the incentives sound good, but I would rather see them as part of a comprehensive package that includes tax increases for others.

By the way, we don’t have a surplus. There is more in the Education Trust Fund than some think we need, but the General Fund is sorely underfunding a number of government necessities, including the Department of Corrections and Medicaid. These are not boom times and the lean times are just around the corner. Now is the time to sock away this supposed “surplus” (which Paul Hubbert won’t allow the General Fund agencies to touch), because the rain is fast approaching for education as well.
