Comfortable Lead?

Anyone who knows Alabama politics would say a 16% lead more than a month out from election day for an incumbent is not exactly “comfortable”. Especially when the trend is that the race is closing. Remember, the lead in the same poll was 21 points just three weeks ago. I would say there is reason for Riley to be nervous.

Alternative Voter Guide for Alabamians: It’s About Time

It’s about time a faith-based group came up with an alterntative voter guide to the one handed out each election season by the group formerly known as the Christian Coalition of Alabama (I haven’t bothered to find out what they choose to call themselves now). The line that cracked me up in the article came from everyone’s favorite Twinkle,

The chairman of the Alabama Republican Party, Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh, has the opposite view of Redeem the Vote.

She calls Brinson “a Democrat propaganda machine” who “meets constantly with Democratic leaders on the national and state levels,” and she is encouraging Republican candidates not to respond to the questionnaire.

And Twinkle doesn’t have a standing lunch date with John Giles? Please…

And no one really expects most Republican candidates to respond to the questionnaire, but most Democrats don’t pander to the group formerly known as the CCA any longer by responding to theirs. Let’s get some honesty into this discussion folks. Just a little, that’s all I ask, then we can go back to lying our collective pants off.

Campaign contributions

The Birmingham News” has posted a list of the campaign contributors to both candidates for Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court. This was in response to charges by the Alabama GOP that Democratic candidate Sue Bell Cobb had taken money from shady individuals. Drayton’s contributors are pretty shady too, considering that the campaign finance laws in Alabama keep us from knowing who is behind some of the PACs from which he has received contributions.
