John Mayer and Sheryl Crow
I attended an amazing concert at Starwood Amphitheatre in Nashville on Sunday night. John Mayer and Sheryl Crow are performing a number of dates together and this was one of those shows. First, I was extremely impressed with the facility. You could get to what you needed (food, bathrooms, etc.) without long lines and the seating under the pavilion was comfortable.
The opening act was Marjorie Fair who was quite good. Then, John Mayer took the stage. I have been a fan for many years now, but to see him perform in person was quite an experience. He has a great stage prescence and is one of the great rock/blues guitarists of his age. He still has a lot of growth ahead of him, but to be where he is at this point in his life is pretty impressive.
Sheryl Crow was less impressive, in her song selections and attitude. Regular readers know my political leanings, but Sheryl was very much pushing an agenda that, though I may agree with her positions, came off as extremely preachy. It wasn’t, “Here’s what I believe”. It was, “Here’s what you should believe”.
The other problem with the double billing and an opening act was a concert that lasted over 4 hours. Even with comfortable seats on a night that was absolutely perfect weather, that’s a long haul. But all in all, it was an amazing experience. They were in Birmingham last night and have two dates remaining in Florida before John wraps up his tour in Atlanta.
