Every once in a while we do get a hint of the real beliefs of Montgomerians.
My husband and I went to the Rave Theater a couple of weeks ago, and after the movie we could barely get past the groups of “thugs” hanging out on the steps outside. We were not surprised at all when we heard about the trouble there recently.
If Ludacris gets to come to Jubilee, the lyrics will be the last reason we will stay away, although his lyrics are very offensive. We will spend our money elsewhere this year simply because of the types of crowds he will draw.
If so many people want to see him perform, put him at the Coliseum, load up the security and sell tickets. Jubilee is supposed to be a family event. No one in their right mind would want to expose their family to any of that.

And what is that exactly Ms. Deloney? What made the people who were hanging outside the theater “thugs” exactly? Did they accost you? I doubt it. Did they pay you any mind at all? I doubt it.
I’m more than certain it was just a group of kids hanging out outside a movie theatre, which happens everywhere in the country. If I were you, I would be thinking long and hard about whether the color of the youths skin made a difference in how you perceived them. And another thing, it’s one thing to be ignorant, it’s another thing to put that ignorance on display for the whole community.

Congratulations to the Leadership Autauga Class of 2007 on a wonderful idea for the City of Prattville. I look forward to using the park with my own dogs.

Bob Lowry did some excellent investigative reporting in this morning’s Huntsville Times. The truly sad part is that anyone whose been around state government long knows this kind of thing happens all the time, and just because someone is a registered lobbyist doesn’t mean she wouldn’t bring some expertise to an agency. The state merit system is not the end-all of expertise and merit employees are not necessarily superior to the alternative. I would expect Mac MacArthur to be upset, as he is quoted in this article. Whether the rest of us should be, is a harder question to answer. There’s certainly something to be said for making sure these kind of arrangements are out in the open, but the construction of the merit system means competent managers will always be looking for alternatives. If folks spent less time being outraged and more time focusing on the unmet personnel needs of state government, this wouldn’t be such a large issue.

Allowing cities to install traffic cameras at stoplights could be one of “the issues” of the regular legislative session. This is a challenging issue for me, because there is a lot to be said for where the cameras are placed and how bias could play a role in that, but that is after the issue at hand. The issue at hand is whether the legislature should allow localities to make those decisions. I think they absolutely should.

As disappointed as I was when Artur Davis announced he would not oppose Senator Jeff Sessions in the 2008 election, I am just as pleased that he has said he isconsidering a run for Governor. He has already been one of the most positive lights in Alabama politics and to bring that spirit to the highest office in the state would be a blessing to us all.

The State Democratic Party parses Senator Sessions recent floor speech on Iraq. I’ve often said the Senator would be better off keeping his mouth shut, and I continue to be proven right, time after time.

I had the same reaction as Dr. Taylor. If it wasn’t such a sad state of affairs, we would laugh.
