As a state employee I can say with confidence, what a bunch of hooey! The transition from bi-weekly to semi-monthly pay cycles certainly was a pain, but we got through it, now the legislature wants to change it back? Make up your minds!

Employees salaries didn’t change, only how it was divided, just because people aren’t responsible enough to manage their finances is not a cause for the legislature to intervene. Here is an example of a “problem” under the new system:

Wren said state employees have sent e-mails describing problems such as the inability to use a biweekly bank draft to pay their mortgage under the new system.

Are you kidding me? Yes, the payday changes from time to time, but its never later than the 3rd or the 18th of the month, so make your bank draft after the 3rd or after the 18th. The fact that a state representative would spend his time on this kind of stupidity is a prime example of why Alabama is where it is today.

Oh and by the way, those 2300 e-mails were carefully orchestrated. I got the e-mail requesting me to contact Rep. Wren. I’m sure it went out to every one of the tens of thousands of state employees, getting a small percentage to e-mail the representative is not a huge accomplishment.
