Fight in the Alabama Senate!
It’s been too long since we had an outright fight in the Alabama Senate…we need wait no longer. Sen. Lowell Barron and Sen. Charles Bishop apparently went at it pretty good this afternoon.
UPDATE (6:01pm CDT): You can view an image capture from the video here. I talked to an eyewitness and she indicated that it looked to her like Bishop actually missed Barron with the punch and then went for his throat. What a day!
UPDATE (6:22PM CDT): So he’s apologized, but not really.
Bishop said he should not have hit him on the Senate floor, but that the Democratic Senator deserved to be punched, and that Bishop would do it again under the same circumstances.
Spectators reported that Bishop punched Barron, and that it took six people to pull him off the other senator. Bishop said that the incident occurred after Barron called him a “son of a bitch†while they were still on the Senate Floor.
Now the question is, didn’t Bishop just prove Barron right? If you can’t even control yourself enough to not physically assault another senator on the floor, doesn’t that, by definition, make you a “son of a bitch”?
I also love that my state representative couldn’t resist the urge to get a dig in on the senate and make his bid for the Captain Obvious award:
“It’s certainly a black eye on the Legislature and the Senate in particular,” said Rep. Jay Love, R-Montgomery.
UPDATE (6:31pm CDT): WSFA has the video (H/T: Politics in Alabama)
