Birmingham Crime Analyzed

This is a very good comprehensive review of crime statistics for the Birmingham metro area. The most interesting finding was the concentration of crime for the entire seven county area in inner-city Birmingham. This should be information already known to city officials, but it reflects a need for the greater region to support efforts to prevent crime in the core of Birmingham, as it reflects poorly on the whole region.

Microsoft Helping Alabama be First in Some Areas

I have seen a real transformation in the last couple of years in the use of technology by state government. Maury Mitchell at the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center is one of the leaders in that effort. As indicated in an article in this morning’s Advertiser, we are actually ahead of the curve in 3-D mapping and it is thanks largely to Maury’s efforts in lobbying Microsoft to do it.

It’s nice to not be last ALL the time.
