R.I.P. Bob Ingram   Comments

Veteran journalist Bob Ingram, who spent six decades reporting on Alabama politics in newspapers and on TV, died Thursday night, ending a career that made him as well known as the politicians he covered. He was 81.

Ingram passed away after a two-year battle with the blood disorder myelodysplasia, his son, Ragan Ingram, said Friday.

Bob Ingram was an outstanding example of political journalism and he will be sorely missed.

SCHIP Veto Override Fails, With Help From Alabama Republicans   Comments

It is literally a crying shame that Alabama Republicans stood with President Bush on the SCHIP bill. This bill is good policy and those who can’t see it were blinded by the misleading and outright false statements of the President.

Bayou La Batre Mayor Should be Arrested   Comments

The mayor of Bayou La Batre thought it entirely appropriate to pull over and board a school bus when he deemed an object at been thrown at his car from said bus.

“There should be no one on that bus except the driver and the students on a regular route,” said Sadie Cates, Mobile County school system’s transportation coordinator. “There is actually a sign posted outside that door that it is unlawful for an unauthorized person to enter that bus. Under normal circumstances, we would have that person arrested.”

Then arrest the man for goodness sake.

Technology…Ain’t it Grand?   Comments

I’ll be interested to see how this works out, but I’m encouraged to see DOT doing something innovative…

State transportation officials say they are ready to start pilot programs in Birmingham and Montgomery to determine whether cell phones can give accurate travel times to display on message boards.

The system will be tested along Interstate 65 from U.S. 31 in Alabaster to 41st Street in Birmingham and in I-65 construction zones in Montgomery.

During the pilot program, the travel times will be posted on message boards for motorists to see.
