Fair Tax Deconstructed

Another one for the so-called “Fair Taxers” to chew on…

Whatever the rate, critics say, a steep federal retail tax, piled on top of existing state sales taxes, would encourage widespread illegal tax evasion, black market transactions and other forms of cheating, creating a cycle that would require even higher tax rates.

“The main weakness of the FairTax is its comprehensiveness,” said Dale W. Jorgenson, an economist at Harvard who opposes the plan but whose research into problems with the current system is sometimes cited by supporters. “It tries to roll everything into one tax, which simply can’t carry all that weight.”

No, it can’t. Do we need to change the tax structure? Yes. Is the “Fair Tax” the answer? No

Keep an Eye on these Girls

This may sound like a terrible incident in itself, and it is, but the one thing people need to realize who are dealing with this incident is that when teenage girls kill each other it often was preceded by a serious fight that didn’t involve weapons. We had a spike in these types of events a couple of years back and when the State Department of Educaiton investigated a stabbing in Lowndes County as well as one in Hoover, what they found is that there had been a serious fight between the same girls just prior to the murders.

Troy King records a ‘duet’ with legend Johnny Cash

Somebody hook up a turbine to Johnny Cash, ’cause he’s spinning in his grave fast enough to power the whole county…

Alabama’s top law enforcement official would likely disapprove of shooting a man in Reno just to watch him die, but Attorney General Troy King seized the opportunity to perform with the country star who sang those dark lyrics.

The late Johnny Cash told that tale of woe in “Folsom Prison Blues,” one of his signature songs. Far less well known was his version of “My Elusive Dreams,” a tune he recorded in 1984 but never

released — until King was provided a copy by one of Cash’s former producers.

King, 39, rewrote a few of the song’s lyrics and added his vocals to create a duet with Cash, who died in 2003 after an acclaimed music career.

King sent about 25 copies of the recording to friends and supporters as a Christmas gift.
