Riley for V.P.?

Our own governor is quite the popular figure…

No fewer than three Republican contenders — John McCain , Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney — have approached Gov. Bob Riley to gauge his interest in joining them on a ticket, according to officials close to the governor.

Considering Alabama is already firmly in the Republican camp, I’m not certain that they would get the biggest bang for their buck with Bob, and I doubt he would accept a second position on a Giuliani ticket, but anything is possible at this point.

Women Crucial to Clinton Victory

I believe the Clinton victory comes down to this simple fact, among women:

Clinton 46%
Obama 34%

It didn’t matter how he did any other way you split it, when you lose the female vote by 12 points, you aren’t going to win. The biggest concern for Obama’s campaign should be to figure out why and try to ensure it doesn’t happen again. If he can keep that gap down to 5 points and hold on to his other constituencies he can win in other states, if he continues to lose women by that kind of margin, he’s in trouble. Put his wife Michelle to work and get her in front of the right audiences…or his campaign is in trouble.

UPDATE: This puts me in agreement with NPR’s Mara Liasson, and a whole lot of other folks.

What a load of BS

From RCP:

Hilary Clinton showed last night why a woman cannot be President and why women should not be in a position of power. Kathleen Blanco (Lousianna Governor) showed this exact same flaw after Katrina. Women are overly emotional.

Last night at a campaign event, Clinton got worked up and showed the effect the strain of the campaign has had on her, she cried. She became emotional. Like Blanco she brokedown. Leaders are supposed to be strong, they are allowed to cry in private situations and cry over sad situations (Katrina counts), but a leader must show strength in the face of adversity.

What a load of judgmental sexist BS.

Rep. Davis Eating His Humble Pie

Regular readers know you won’t find a bigger supporter of Rep. Artur Davis than me, but I certainly hope his talk yesterday was a design on influencing the race and not a real blind belief that after the Iowa caucuses this thing was over.

Davis predicted early Tuesday that Obama would win in New Hampshire as well as in upcoming contests in Nevada and South Carolina.

Feb. 5 is being called “Super Duper Tuesday” because 22 states, including Alabama, will be holding party primaries.

“Every national poll taken now shows (Obama) ahead or even with Clinton,” said Davis. “Four weeks ago, (Clinton) was ahead by up to 28 points. It was a staggering lead at the time.”

The Democrat from Birmingham said if the current trend continues, “the Clinton campaign has to ask itself, ‘can we turn these numbers around and, if not, should we unify behind one nominee?’”

The people of New Hampshire are known for being contrarian and they were not ready to anoint a nominee just yet. This thing is definitely a race and it will be at least through February 5th…that’s a good thing.

I still believe Senator Obama is the right choice, but many more people need to have their voices heard before we can say that he will be the nominee.
