Super Tuesday Live Blogging

1:15pm - I went to my local polling place (Georgia Washington Junior HS in Montgomery) around 9:30am this morning, expecting traffic to be pretty light. It was actually quite brisk, which was very encouraging to me. We’ll find out later if this representative of the state as a whole.

1:35pm - Voting has been brisk in the Montgomery area.

1:40pm - Mike Huckabee pulled an upset in West Virginia - taking all 18 delegates in the caucuses there.

1:54pm - The judge of probate in Madison county is indicating turnout is comparable to a general election…very good news.

2:00pm - Rep. Artur Davis posts on the blog at The Hill:

I have endorsed Senator Obama and I am very hopeful of today. It’s likely the results will be a mixed bag. If Senator Obama is able to break through in Massachusetts and Connecticut, two states where he has been thirty points behind, where he was given virtually no chance, and if he can win in Missouri, exactly the kind of state the democrats need to contest in November, and California then I think he will be on the verge of putting a grip on the democratic nomination.

2:06pm - Dr. Taylor reports “decent turnout” at his precinct.

3:14pm - Turnout is also heavy at Alabama A&M University.

4:49pm - Danny has anecdotal evidence of strong Democratic turnout in areas that would not normally have many Dems. Is it anti-Hillary fervor or pro-Obama support? Either way the votes go for Obama.

6:04pm - Georgia goes to Obama…quick call is a good start to the night for him.

7:04pm - McCain takes New Jersey, Connecticut and Illinois. Romney takes Massachusetts. Obama takes Illinois and Clinton takes Oklahoma. No immediate call on either side in Alabama.

7:07pm - NPR has called Alabama for Obama! No call from the major networks yet…

7:17pm - FOX has called the Alabama GOP race for Huckabee…that would be HUGE

7:20pm - Drudge has the early exit poll results…they look unbelievably good for Obama and bad for McCain…but we know better than to pay too much attention to those.

7:30pm - NBC gives Tennessee to Hillary Clinton

7:40pm - Clinton and Huckabee take Arkansas…no surprise there.

7:42pm - Delaware goes to McCain.

8:01pm - New York for Clinton.

8:03pm - NBC gives Delaware to Obama and Massachusetts goes to Clinton.

8:28pm - McCain gets New York on the Republican side…there seems to be a trend of him winning the states that the GOP has no shot to win in the fall.

8:41pm - The AP finally called Alabama for Obama, with over 30% of the precincts reporting.

9:05pm - North Dakota belongs to Obama. McCain takes Oklahoma.

9:09pm - Romney gets Utah…he says he’s staying in…I’m not sure why.

9:20pm - Okay…someone needs to explain to me how Hillary Clinton got 90% of the vote in Wilcox County, Alabama…one of the most African-American counties you are ever going to find anywhere in the country. Never mind, it was just an error on the page.

9:22pm - I guess Sen. Obama’s cousins delivered, as promised, in Kansas. He is winning BIG in the caucuses there. He has also took Utah.

9:40pm - Obama takes Connecticut, in a very close race.

10:01pm - Minnesota belongs to Obama as well.

10:02pm - Huckabee’s night keeps getting better, he pulled out a close “winner take all” victory in Georgia.

10:16pm - All in all, a very good night fo Obama and Huckabee and not as a good a night as Clinton and McCain had hoped for…we still have a race on both sides, though what that race will look like over the next month is very unclear.

Good night everyone!

VOTE

You know who I’m supporting in the presidential primary today, but no matter who you are supporting, PLEASE VOTE. I once was one of the people who said my vote doesn’t matter, but this year, more than any presidential election in my lifetime, IT DOES MATTER.
