Alabama Legislature files 532 proposed laws on first day of session

Lots for us to chew on…

Lawmakers on Tuesday started this year’s regular session of the Legislature by filing 532 proposed laws for review and possible approval in a session that could last through May 19.

The bills included plans to lower personal income taxes, ban annual property reappraisals, exempt over-the-counter drugs from state and local sales taxes and fine any contractor that knowingly employs an illegal alien doing work on a state contract.

Record Turnout in Alabama

Yesterday was a great day for Alabama. Moving our primary up on the calendar did exactly what everyone had hoped, get people excited to come out to the polls, and boy did they come…

Preliminary results show that Alabama’s voter turnout on Super Tuesday — a day when 24 states held their primaries — was the highest in the state’s history, according to state and local officials.

In Montgomery County, four times as many people voted in the 2004 presidential primaries — 57,541 people voted on Tuesday compared to 14,027 in 2004, when the primaries where held in June, according to Trey Granger, director of elections.
