Don’t Know Who Organized It…

I wish Senator Beason’s bill would have just been defeated in a fair vote yesterday, instead of these childish tactics of not showing up for a meeting. Show up and vote, don’t hide from it Senators. If you’re against the bill, have the guts to vote against it.

I’m against it, and I would stand up and say so.

No more than five of the 11 members of the Senate’s Fiscal Responsibility and Accountability Committee showed up for the meeting at the same time. Six members are required to form a quorum and vote on proposed laws.

Sen. Ted Little, D-Auburn, who chairs the committee, said the panel probably would meet next either March 12 or March 26.
Committee members Sens. Wendell Mitchell, D-Luverne; Ben Brooks, R-Mobile; Jabo Waggoner, R-Vestavia Hills; and Little and Beason attended more than an hour of the public hearing.
Then Mitchell left. He said he had places to go outside the State House.

A few minutes later, committee member Sen. Bobby Singleton, D-Greensboro, showed up for the last few minutes of the hearing. He said he had been at another meeting and couldn’t arrive earlier.

Without a quorum, Little adjourned the meeting soon after Singleton showed up.

Panel says let voters decide on constitution

I applaud the nine members of the House Constitution and Elections committee who voted in favor of moving the bill calling for a constitutional convention to the floor for a vote. The people of Alabama deserve the chance to vote on this important legislation, denying them that right is not fair or democratic.
