It’s that time again…2 days until election day. Time for my thoughts on some of the races. I’m just one person, take my opinion for what it’s worth (but please notice I am not advocating a straight party line ballot):

President and Vice President of the United States:

Barack Obama and Joe Biden, Democrat

I think I’ve written enough on this topic for you to know where I stand. I was a supporter of John McCain during the primaries in 2000, he is not the same man today that he was then. He is no longer “the maverick” he wants to lay claim to being. Barack Obama may not have a lot of experience, but he has the right kind of experience. I have confidence in his judgment, from his stance on the war, to his response to the economic crisis, to his choice of a running mate that I simply don’t have in John anymore.

United States Senator:

Vivian Davis Figures, Democrat

Senator Jeff Sessions has been an embarrassment to this state time and time again on the floor of the Senate. He doesn’t represent the interests of Alabamians and it’s time for him to give up the seat. I would have liked to see a stronger candidate challenge him, but I’m almost to the point of anyone but Jeff.

Unitied States Representative:

2nd Congressional District

Bobby Bright, DemocratJoshua Segall, Democrat

Mike Rogers has shown a propensity for making the wrong choice on issues that are extremely important to the district. Josh also is an independent spirit who will not toe the party line when it isn’t right for the citizens of his district.

Associate Justice of the Supreme Court

Deborah Bell Passeur, Democrat

Court of Civil Appeals Judge

Bill Thompson, Republican

Court of Criminal Appeals, Place 1

Beth Kellum, Republican

Court of Criminal Appeals, Place 2

Aimee Cobb Smith, Democrat

President, Public Service Commission

Lucy Baxley, Democrat

Member, State Board of Education

District Number 3

Stephanie Bell, Republican

I have not been a fan of Stephanie in the past, but the way she conducted herself during the two-year college investigation impressed me.

District Number 5

Lula Bridges, Republican

I think the world of both women in this race, but I do believe Ella has served ablely for many years and it’s time to give someone else a chance, and Lula is a very capable successor.

Circuit Court Judge, Montgomery County, Place 9

Johnny Hardwick, Democrat

District Court Judge, Montgomery County, Place 1

Jimmy Pool, Democrat

Montgomery County Commission, District 5

Randy Rushton, Democrat

Considering all of the other candidates are running unopposed, it might be nice to get some new blood in there somehow, and Mr. Rushton is certainly an able candidate.

Montgomery County Revenue Commissioner

Janet Y. Buskey, Democrat
