Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act Passes House with No Votes from All AL Reps

Mooncat had a good item early this morning expressing disappointment in our Democratic representatives in particular. The sad thing for me is I believe this was a vote of conscience on all of their parts. All three of our Democratic representatives, much like the rest of Alabama have a fear of homosexuals and still old on to the belief that sexuality is somehow a moral issue.

I fully support HR 1913 and I also encourage all Alabamians to become familiar with Equality Alabama, a wonderful organization that is built on the belief that all Alabamians should be treated with the same dignity and respect and be given the same protections under the law.

Bill Johnson to Run For Governor Too?

Man has it been a busy day in the Governor’s race…thanks so much to Danny for posting these items today. Now, it appears ADECA Director Bill Johnson may be interested in the job. He would be the obvious Riley candidate, as he is very close to the governor. He has also made a lot of connections during his time in state government.

I worked for Bill (but didn’t report to him directly) while he was Assistant Director and for a brief time after he moved up. I certainly have my opinions about him, but I’ll keep them to myself for the time being. There is no doubt he is a smart guy and his wife is very connected as well.

Sue Bell Cobb 90% Committed to Run for Governor?

I still can’t believe it, but Danny’s sources have been right plenty of times before, and I’m scared of what this will do. Many people, including me, will be deeply torn if forced to choose between Sue Bell Cobb and Artur Davis. PLUS we lose the only Democrat on the appellate courts…this is a lose lose for Democrats in the state.

Will she ever get a better opportunity to run? Who knows… But it appears AEA Executive Secretary Paul Hubbert has done it again and convinced the Chief Justice to run…Lord help us. This will pit the powerful AEA backed Chief Justice Cobb against a largely African-American and business-backed Rep. Artur Davis.
