Alabama Republicans Still Don’t Get Davis

I think Republicans want to obscure the point that Artur Davis was making this week. They’re precisely right that much of the plan he proposed this week have been things the Republicans in the Alabama House and Senate have been pushing as well. And their response is to tell him to “insist” the Democrats in the legislature pass these reforms.

What the Republicans are missing is that Artur is not someone who can insist on anything from the leadership in the Alabama legislature right now…in fact, he is going to be pitted directly against them in the primary. However, if he is given the office of governor, it will be a whole different ballgame. Artur was staking out ground this week that will allow him to claim the true center of the political spectrum as well as show his independence from some of the nastier elements of the political machine in Montgomery.
