I'm reading the same data you are, and I agree that the ABAD crowd would need a candidate who can get all kinds of voters away from Davis, including African-Americans, but that doesn't equate necessarily to a black candidate. Sue Bell Cobb and Susan Parker certainly would have pulled a number of voters away from Davis...not sure there are any candidates left who would fit that bill.

You can't deny plain facts just because you don't like them. In 2008 AL presidential primary over 80% of blacks voted for Obama over Clinton. Davis will get those votes. If the ABAD folks wanted to stop him then further fragmenting the white vote would be counterproductive. They have to fragment the black vote if they want to stop Davis. Racial politics is ugly, but one can't ignore the exit polling from the Clinton/Obama primary in AL and pretend being black doesn't help Davis in the primary, but hurt him in general. I don't like that - I'd prefer to see him win/lose on substantive issues - but I can't ignore readily available data.

It's not all about race...Davis has support from people all over the state of different races and different political affiliations, those who are trying to find another candidate seem to believe they need a white candidate who has strong support in the African-American community, rather than a black candidate. Sue Bell Cobb and Susan Parker would have fit that bill...not sure there's anyone left on that bench.

Sad but true...

If the ABAD folks want a legit candidate then they'll have to pick a black person. The demographics make it nearly impossible to defeat Artur in primary with a white candidate. Black vote will be uniform and Davis will pick up quite a few white guilt libs as well. Gonna be hard to stop him.
