According to a Democratic source, Alabama candidate for governor Rep. Artur Davis, will be speaking at the Democratic Governor’s Association Candidate Luncheon shortly in Washington, DC. He is one of only four candidates that were asked to outline their races for an audience of DGA members and candidates (the others to speak include Alex Cink from Florida, Lt. Gov. Diane Denish of New Mexico and Milwaukee, Wisconsin Mayor Tom Barrett). To be included in such select company is a positive sign for Rep. Davis and how folks in Washington are viewing this race.
I’m sure we’ll hear more about this later today.
UPDATE: Danny points out that several states had more than one candidate in attendance…but no Ron Sparks.
UPDATE 2: Peter Hamby of CNN indicated that Gov. Schweitzer of Montana led into his introducation of Artur Davis by saying, “We think we can win in places we haven’t been winning. We start by having great charismatic candidates.”
Hamby also reported that Davis touted his poll numbers and said, “If we can do this, we will change American politics, we will change southern politics.”
UPDATE 3: mooncat at Left in Alabama has some additional insight and background on the DGA and the Alabama race.

An interesting aspect of this race: The Alabama Democratic establishment seems to be pulling for Sparks and the D.C. Democratic establishment seems to be pulling for Davis.
