It looks like Amendment Two, which would have removed racist segregation-era language from the Constitution, is going down to defeat. It goes to show that the politics of fear and racism are still alive and well in Alabama. A few prominent Republicans, including Roy Moore and John Giles, were able to convince over half the voters in Alabama that a provision to remove racist language that had already been ruled unconstitutional and moot was going to somehow affect their taxes. As if we needed further evidence of how far we still have to go in our fair state, here it is yet again.
