Quick Hits – September 28th

It’s been relatively quiet on the Alabama political front…so let’s return to my semi-regular feature, Quick Hits. This is where I review the top Google Trends at this hour, give my unique perspective and try to figure out why they are trending:

1. Stafon Johnson

USC football player who had a tragic weightlifting accident just hours ago. Please pray for him and his family.

2. Spanish Prime Minister’s Daughters
3. Spain’s First Family with the Obamas

Apparently, the daughters of the Spanish Prime Minister are a bit too goth for some people. With all the international issues going on right now, THIS is what people are interested in?

4. Justin Siegel

The guy who didn’t acknowledge his marriage publicly until a few months ago wants a divorce from Phantom of the Opera star Emmy Rossum? Go figure.

5. Nacho Figueras

The “Brad Pitt of Polo”, seriously??? Took some head scratching to figure out where this search result came from…but that’s only because I don’t watch Oprah.

6. Dan Falco

This one I can’t figure out at all, although apparently he’s a big deal in Jersey right now…anyone know what’s going on with Dan Falco?

7. Derrion Albert
9. Derrion Albert Beating Video

Terribly tragic loss…

Prosecutors said Derrion, an honor roll student, was pummeled with wooden planks and kicked in the head after he found himself in the midst of a large fight on Thursday afternoon between two groups of youths a few blocks from his school, Christian Fenger Academy High School, on the South Side.

Prosecutors said the fight followed a shooting earlier in the day outside the school, involving the two groups.

Silvonus Shannon, 19; Eugene Riley, 18; Eugene Bailey, 17; and Eric Carson, 16, were charged with first-degree murder on Monday and held without bail. The police said the video helped them identify the suspects.

8. Bastard Out of Carolina

Again with the Oprah effect…

10. Ballard Spahr

And I’m stumped on this as well…any help?

10. bakugan new vestroia episode 11

No idea…but here it is.

My Latest Adventure…

I have made some adjustments in my activity here, based on a significantly increased level of activity on Twitter. One of the great benefits of Twitter is being able to interact and meet people you never would have been able to connect with otherwise.

One of those interactions has resulted in a new opportunity for my wife and I. I have become friends with one of the minds behind a new website called MedicalMommas.com. It’s an idea hatched by two medical journalists (one from the print world and one from television) to be a site that is a hybrid of WebMD and Facebook, a social network where women can get accurate medical information and exchange ideas. Obviously, the site was created as a site by and for women, but I have been able to angle my way in as someone with some expertise to offer.

My wife and I are currently moderating the “Blended Families” group and hope to move into other areas in the future. I encourage all of my female readers to come check the site out. It is currently in beta form, with a scheduled debut of September 1st. I hope to see you there!

Robbing Stores at 4am Can Make You Sleepy

Just a little tip for next time…if you’re that tired, take your nap BEFORE you rob the store…

Jonathan Henry Gadson, 24, Wimberley Edward Scott, 21, and a 16-year-old male were caught hours later when police found them asleep in a van at an apartĀment parking lot about 100 feet from Tobacco Express about 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Seriously? They couldn’t drive more than 100 feet away without taking a nap?
