I Would Certainly Hope So…

Thank goodness some people have common sense…at least after they’re arrested. A teacher in Baldwin County resigned yesterday, after being arrested on school grounds for public intoxication during school hours.

Now, I hope she gets the help she obviously needs for her alcohol addiction.

Mobile County residents drink 457 beers

We may have finally found the mechanism to communicate how big of a problem binge drinking is in Alabama (and across the country). The average Mobile county resident of drinking age consumes 22 gallons of beer in a year.

Now, that’s assuming that only those of drinking age are consuming, but including everyone alive wouldn’t even cut the number in half. It’s a shocking statistic, but it’s a good place to start the conversation. What does responsible drinking really mean, and what can we do to encourage responsible drinking in Alabama communities and eliminate underage alcohol use?

That was Quick…

The underage drinking campaign that hasn’t even been kicked-off yet (the official start is at a media event tomorrow), is already getting attention in the blogosphere….gotta love it. Red Square is a highly respected agency and I’m quite pleased with what they are up to in educating parents about the dangers of underage drinking.

This blogger may think it’s a joke, but kids who believe their parents disapprove of alcohol use are much less likely to use.
