Palin’s Alabama Fundraiser

George Talbot from the Mobile Press-Register offered this tidbit through his Twitter feed from the Business Council of Alabama conference in Point Clear, AL today:

BCA buzz: rumors about a Palin event in Ala for one of the candidates. Her appearance fee: $50k

Of course this news was breaking around the same time we were beginning to see reports that Sarah and Todd Palin are divorcing…talk about your bad timing…

After much discussion amongst the Alabama Political Discussion Crew (#alpdc)…it seems we believe that the state GOP may be planning a fundraiser with Palin, not any one particular candidate…though I have not been able to get any confirmation of that as of yet.

Stay tuned…

UPDATE: A denial of the divorce rumor has been issued by Sarah Palin’s attorney.

UPDATE 2: Indications from those in Point Clear are that George Talbot’s initial indications were correct, and that a candidate is seriously pursuing Palin, while party officials have considered the idea.

UPDATE 3: And the letter that was sent to the Alaska Report from Palin’s attorney.

Ditto

I, like Dr. Taylor, have avoided commenting on the Palin/Turkey slaughtering video…largely because I’d rather ignore Palin entirely, but I agree with his assessment 100%: PoliBlog (TM): A Rough Draft of my Thoughts » Look, it’s Just Plain Weird.

Palin says Stevens will do “right thing”…

The Hill’s Blog Briefing Room » Stevens: I Remain a Candidate for the U.S. Senate

Thank goodness we aren’t judging our candidates on who they associate with, Stevens being a convicted felon and all.

Palin Abused Power

And the report finally drops…at almost 9pm EST on a Friday night…

From the AP:

Sarah Palin unlawfully abused her power as governor by trying to have her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper, the chief investigator of an Alaska legislative panel concluded Friday. The politically charged inquiry imperiled her reputation as a reformer on John McCain’s Republican ticket.

Investigator Stephen Branchflower, in a report by a bipartisan panel that investigated the matter, found Palin in violation of a state ethics law that prohibits public officials from using their office for personal gain.

Where does McCain go from here? The reformer, the maverick, apparently abused her power…
